Severn Trent focuses on savings and service levels

March 2009
OTM is to manage the print and mailing of Severn Trent Water’s bills, letters, payment books, cheques and remittances. OTM will use the company’s data to print and mail its transactional communications in one seamless operation.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tender in which OTM scored the highest of all suppliers against a technical capability matrix and also won the competitive bid.

Severn Trent Water (STW) aims to make savings from the move to OTM, through reductions in printing and post room operations and specifically, by postal consolidation which can significantly reduce the cost of each item. Part of OTM’s proposal was to reposition addresses to enable STW to achieve Mailsort 120.

Covering an area across the heart of the UK, stretching from the Bristol Channel to the Humber, and from mid-Wales to the East Midlands, STW serves more than eight million customers.

With huge volumes of data involved, risk-free migration was a key requirement for STW, as was uninterrupted adherence to Service Level Agreements. OTM focused on achieving ‘lift and shift’ to minimise business risk and improved the layout of both raw data and print ready applications to facilitate APACS accreditation for Giro slips.
